Can cleaning hardwood floors let them last longer?
Hardwood is increasingly used on the flooring of the house. They will add beauty and elegance to your home. The wood used in the floor can be of two types – solid wood and engineering wood. Solid wood consists of planks cut from a single piece of wood. Solid wood floors are not a common type of flooring. Planks, individual, and long pieces of wood must twist and turn over time. In the case of manipulated wood, thin planks are cut from the wood. These boards, which are thinner in size, are not usable as they are. They are reinforced by joining or pressing two or more boards on top of each other. Wooden floors are the most common type of flooring in the world. They are easy to install when delivered in pre-finished or laminated form.
Cleaning and maintenance
The method of cleaning wooden floors will vary depending on the type of floor finish.
Upper covered floors
The wood is covered with polyurethane paint. This is another layer that protects the wood. Water, moisture, and stains are difficult to absorb in this layer and therefore the wood is protected from damage. This type of floor is easy to maintain. Removing dust and sweeping will ensure that the floor shines for a long time. Vacuum dust removal is the best option because vacuum cleaners collect dust in attached dust containers. It will not allow dust to come out and spread around.
Wipe the floor once or twice a week. The frequency of wiping depends on the operation directed at the floor. In high-traffic areas, such as the kitchen and dining area, you may need to moisten the floor more often. Use the cleaning fluid recommended by the floor designer. If not available, soap and water can be used. Mix a tablespoon of ph-neutral liquid soap in a bucket with water. Dip the mop into the bucket and dry it.
Floor treated with seal and oil
The wood hardens but does not protect the wood from moisture. This type of surface treatment requires an additional layer of wax. The floor should be wiped daily with a sweeper or vacuum cleaner. This type of surface treatment does not prevent water from penetrating the wood. Therefore, the floor cannot be moistened with a damp mop. If wax has accumulated in some places, the deposit can be removed with a remover and waxed again. Once a year, the floor should be painted with new wax. Remove the old wax with a remover. Use a stripper recommended by the manufacturer or use any mineral alcohol available at the hardware store. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth. After the floor is completely dry, apply a thin layer of wax. You can use liquid wax or paste wax. If you are using liquid wax, use an applicator or cloth if you are using paste wax. An additional layer of wax will give your hardwood floor extra protection. Finally, polish the wax layer with a polishing machine or cloth. It gives your floor a shiny surface. Always polish in the direction of the tree core.
Enjoy flooring for a long time by having it cleaned!
